Luxury Pedicures on Salt Spring Island!

What is it about having pretty feet that makes us love our pedicures? It's undeniable that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but it's universal and global that ladies and some gents, love to get their toes painted and cleaned up to look pretty and get that wonderful feeling, when our feet have been tended too properly!

It all started, as far as records show, in Ancient Egypt.....3000BC. They used Henna to tint the toe nails and soon enough it became a status symbol. The darker the Henna the more special you were. Cleopatra had darkly coloured Henna toes! There are records in China too, where flowers, egg whites and beesax were used to colour toes....again it became another status symbol.

In Ancient Rome, body care was part of their grooming rituals and personal care, and a very important part of life. Often reserved for the wealthy who had the time and leisure to do it!

So evidence is there, that this is a luxury past time, and its origins are aligned with status and wealth. Luckily now, in the modern day world, pedicures are available for all for the most part. At least in the western world. If people can't afford to go and have one, they do their own.

Why? well for one thing, cleaning up the toes, removing dead skin, shaping the toe nails is functional and practical and necessary. It gets uncomfortable pretty quickly when nail grow too long, and feet get sore. I believe, painting them is a sign of personal grooming but also a statement of fun, frivolity and sharing a little joy. I find it amusing and sweet, seeing peoples chosen colours and choices of paint and designs that gives individuals a chance at self expression, revealing a little bit of information on who they are and their general mood.

Black nails....a little dark, mystical and perhaps gothic.

Red nails...a little sexy, provocative and aluring.

Blue or Yellow....a little playful and fun, especially in the summer months.

So perhaps just going to get a pedicure is the Luxury. After all, its not that easy to reach our feet and actually see the details to clean them up.

Yes - to choices in colours to pretty up the toes with colours that are natural or vibrant, using Vegan Nail polishes.

Yes - to a paraffin wax dip to ease achy feet, reduce swelling and infuse the moisturizer that's naturally healthy, deep into the skin so that you leave with super soft feet!
